Birds in the air and the deer in the distance are my favourite bits. The impression of.. is it light scrub? In the snow in the foreground? Looks repetitive and not natural but this is a poor monitor I'm viewing it on.

Love the woodpile.

Thank you :) if i understand it good there are footprints on the ground leading from the other side of the house to the woodpile and light on the snow is like that cause of the texture i used for light.

Congrats on being a finalist in the Blender Guru contest, I just saw it there! Quite impressive, especially since it's low poly.

chimney is too reflective; icicles are too sparse and aren't refracting the light convincingly

The small "bushes" in the middle are a bit too repetitive.

Oh, wow, I just saw this from the Blender Guru competition entries. I didn't know this picture was going to be in that competition, but in that case, I wonder if Andrew Price would want a more "story" element to this piece, but the technical details are great enough to be a winner I think.

And I just spotted the deer you put in, excellent background details!

to be honest the competition was "motivation" for me to make a new scene for portfolio and i had spare time so why not :) it was perfect for me to learn how to model some stuff (trees were the first thing i never knew how to model) =) maybe the trees aren't perfect here but its much better then i made them before... of course everybody would like to win so that will be just bonus on all this i learned from this project :) hehe yea animals really helps a lot ;) Thanks!

I woudl suggest adding another particle system of shrubs or other small plants (even without leaves...), weight painting the ground/using this weight paint for density so that it looks more concentrated around the trees, to the point that you almost cannot see the ground. I say this mostly because the trees themselves look too "in the middle of things" and isolated, if you know what I mean :)
Have you done anything with the compositor yet?

trying to do everything by hand and not use particle system ;) i'll see what i can do. the compositor haves some basic things sharpen node, color balance, vignette... still need to add zdepth and some minor tweaks here and there =)

The windows are generating much more light than is realistic, it's shadows are too well defined. The light coming from the window would be diffused and soft, a small patch of orange on the snow. It would spread a lot more too, hitting the window frame and the bottom edge of the roof slightly. This looks as if there is an orange searchlight attached to the roof inside the cabin.

In addition, maybe adding lights around the cabin outside would help warm up the space around the it and invite the viewer even more. It feels like there should be more bounce lighting or something around the cabin. Another thing you could consider is adding more blue tone to the shadows to make the picture feel darker or colder, contrasting the cabin.

The snow formations, background elements, and small touches look really well done.

yea i was thinking about putting some light outside of the house... but somewhere in the back of my mind im thinking i should avoid that because its too obvious/easy =/ (sounds weird i know) ill try to change shadows to the bluish color will update soon :)

Thanks for the comment =D

id watch the sky.. you can see the overlay layers or however you made it. You can see a square directly above the chimney, the smoke is in the middle. On the other top corner you can see something similar around the tree

I'd say the same as everyone else about the glossy snow.
Otherwise it is very impressive :D and I thought immediately of Skyrim (low-poly).
So awesome!

Great work! I agree that the snow on the roof is quite glossy around the edge. It gives it a nice artistic winter look though but may not be completely realistic. I think it would be good if the lighting on the trees varied a little more. At the moment they all seem to have the same lighting. What I believe are leaveless shrubs on the ground also don't quite look right to me. They all seem very similar, very fadded and appear to cross the paths. It's very impressive though, especially the smoke and window lighting.

the trees have "same" lighting because they are all not traceable by renderer so no shadows/no light it was best way to save on render times (because i have to use renderer otherwise i would use udk for it :P) and yea ill change the snow on roof thanks a lot for comment :D

The amount of detail in these is amazing. I do see some issues with it, but I'm in no position to tell you how to do anything. I'm much less skilled than you are.

I appreciate your take on things, but I can't put my finger on it. It has something to do with the scaling. It looks like a small scale model. Like for an explosion scene in a movie. I'm having the same issue with a gas station I'm working on right now.

one friend told me thats because of a background and if you put little clouds in background it helps making image to scale... i didnt not use it but you can test it maybe it helps you ;)

I think for low-poly it is very impressive.
You may reconsider the snow on the roof. Maybe a bit too glossy. Snow can be glossy if on the point of melting.
And think about how you can get the trees more stand out from the background. I know it's difficult, both the mountains and the trees are part of the 'winter-landscape'. Perhaps a bit more contrast.
But don't forget: there is also something like "artistic freedom".

still thinking about making fog/mist for the depth but having a problem with planes with alpha (brenches and plants) and about the snow on the roof ill see if i can get better texture more detail one that will be better and lower the spec map on it ;) thanks for the comment
